WipeOut aka American Gladiator

There is what I thought was a new show called, “WipeOut” on TV. It has huge similarities to one of my favorite childhood TV shows, “American Gladiator”. In “WipeOut” contestants compete in obstacle courses for the title of WipeOut Champion. Contestants range from teenagers to parents, and usually have themes to every show.

On the last episode, the contestants were competing against each other in Cheerleaders v. Couch Potatoes. The cheerleaders without a doubt had an advantage over the couch potatoes, because the obstacles in “WipeOut” require a certain amount of physical fitness. It was absolutely hilarious to watch the couch potatoes leap from platform to platform and miss, falling into a pool of water. Now, before you think I am some hugely cruel person, it was just as funny to watch the cheerleaders breakout in cheers like they were at spirit rally when they completed a course. The match-up obviously set it up so the couch potatoes were the underdogs, and like any feel good story, I found myself cheering for the overweight men.

In the end, the competition was won by the cheerleaders—no surprise there. However, all contestants looked like they had an enjoyable experience. I personally found the show extremely entertaining, and a walk down memory lane to “American Gladiator”. Now that is classic programming.
